My phone isn't going silent at prayer time
Namaz Mode relies on a few Android permissions and on being allowed to run in the background. Check these in order:
- Do Not Disturb access. Open Android Settings, search for "Do Not Disturb access" and make sure Namaz Mode is turned on. Without it, no app can change your ringer.
- Alarms and reminders. Search Settings for "Alarms and reminders" (or "exact alarms") and allow it for Namaz Mode, so silence starts on the exact minute.
- Battery optimisation. Open Settings › Apps › Namaz Mode › Battery and choose Unrestricted (or "Don't optimise"). Some phones, including many from Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme and Huawei, also have their own "sleeping apps" or "auto-start" lists. Remove Namaz Mode from sleeping apps and allow it to auto-start. dontkillmyapp.com has step-by-step guides for each brand.
- The prayer is turned on. In the app, check that silencing is switched on for that prayer and that its silent window is set the way you want.
- After a restart or update. Open the app once after restarting your phone or updating Android, so it can set the schedule again.
The sound didn't come back after prayer
This usually has the same cause as the phone not going silent: Android stopped the app in the background before the window ended. Follow the battery and alarm steps above. If your phone is still silent, you can turn the sound back on yourself from the quick settings panel at any time; Namaz Mode will carry on with the next prayer as normal.
My prayer times look wrong
Prayer times are calculated from your location, so small differences from your mosque's timetable are normal. To match them more closely:
- Check your city. Make sure the saved city is where you are now. If you travel, tap "Use my location" again or pick your new city from the list.
- Calculation method. Different regions use different methods. Choose the one your local mosque follows.
- Asr method. Choose Hanafi or the standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) Asr, depending on what you follow. This can move Asr by an hour or more.
- Time zone. Make sure your phone's date, time and time zone are set automatically.
- Mosque delay. If your prayer starts some minutes after the adhan, set a mosque delay so silence begins at jamaat time.
The app is a convenience tool, not a religious authority. When in doubt, follow your local mosque's timetable and adjust the settings to match.
Calls and notifications while silent
- Let important people through: turn on "Allow calls from favorites" and your starred contacts can still ring. Star a contact in your phone's Contacts app.
- Missed a call from someone who should ring through? Android's own Do Not Disturb settings decide who gets through. Check Settings › Notifications › Do Not Disturb › People.
- Prayer notifications: you can turn the "prayer is starting" notifications on or off in the app's Settings.
Don't rely on Namaz Mode when missing a call could cause harm, such as on-call work or medical alerts. See our Terms for more.
Pro and purchases
- Restore Pro on a new phone: sign in with the same account you used before, and Pro comes back. If you never signed in, Pro is linked to your Google Play account; install the app with that Google account.
- Cancel a subscription: open Google Play › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel it.
- Refunds: Google Play handles refunds under its refund policy. If something went wrong with a purchase, email us and we'll help where we can.
- What Pro includes: [Add what Pro includes and its price.]
Account and your data
- You don't need an account. Without one, your settings, location and schedules stay on your phone.
- Signing in keeps a copy of your settings so they come back on any phone or after a reinstall.
- Delete your account in the app under Settings › Delete account, or follow the steps to delete your account without the app. Your account and synced settings are deleted straight away.
- No ads, no trackers, no analytics. Read the full Privacy Policy for details.
